It depends on the type of phone you have- If you Google “Remote ID apps for _____ phones” you’ll get all types of apps that can show Remote ID transmissions from a nearby drone. Unfortunately, only Android phones can detect WiFi RID (which DJI uses), but both Android and Apple IOS phones can detect Bluetooth RID transmissions, which most aftermarket stick-on RID beacons use.

Dronescout sells a unit that can retransmit both types of RID to both Android and Apple phones also.

I am in Oregon and just received a Certified Letter from a neighbor demanding that I stop flying and hovering over their property. In 8 years of flying I may have flown over their property 4 or 5 times and I have never "hovered" over any property as I respect people's privacy but also enjoy this hobby. We all have 5 acre parcels..
I know their is another operator in the area and their drone has even flown over our property.
My issue is proving this neighbor that there issue is not with me. All that being said... How long do your flight logs remain available?

You can still fly and even hover over the property! we have pretty strict laws about this here in Cali, thanks to TMZ and the other idiots....
If you were directly harassing the neighbor, then your neighbor would have a case. They cannot claim that simply flying over the property harasses them. (unless they have some sort of medical thing or they have proof you do it unreasonably often and cause a hazard) maybe....
If you are FILMING and by doing so you make the neighbors property or their activities the main subject of your video, then your neighbor can sue under the right of publicity act......ONLY if you use the video for monetary gain.
You cannot film your neighbors activities while they are on their own property........That means PROLONGED FILMING...If you are simply filming as you fly over you are NOT breaking the law...even if you pause for a few moments and film something you are still good, as long as what you are filming is not the main subject of the video. e.g....If you are taking video of your family walking to the mailbox and you happen to get his home and activities in the background..So be it... He has no case and you have broken no law.
if you must fly over a portion of his property to film the walk well..The FAA says that's fine and your neighbor has nothing to say. Your neighbor could post a sign I suppose, but unless a judge of some kind approves it, its just a yard decoration.

Maybe you can let us know what it takes to get with your lawyer and then send a cease and desist letter to the drone pilot. That would be the first step. I realize that could happen in any state but in my state, I would laugh at that letter because it would be unserious. How about in CA or OR?

Waste of Money!! Unless you are dive bombing him or relentlessly filming them for a long time without permission While they are taking out the garbage.. Your doing nothing wrong!
The law says nothing really about Drone flight rules already in place really. but its about How you fly and what you film with your Drone.
Lets say you happen to fly over Tom Hankssess?? house, well that's fine... even if the cam is running as you go over..
NOW if you pause the Drone to Catch Tom typing in his backyard for More than a few moments. He can have you arrested
OR IF you don't get arrested then and you later sell your video to TMZ, They can arrest you for filming him in his yard and he will sue you..

"a person may not operate an unmanned aircraft system over the boundaries of privately owned premises in a manner so as to intentionally, knowingly or recklessly harass or annoy the owner or occupant of the privately owned premises."

"
Except as provided in subsections (2) and (3) of this section, a person who owns or lawfully occupies real property in this state may bring an action against any person or public body that operates an unmanned aircraft system that is flown over the property if:

(a)​

The operator of the unmanned aircraft system has flown the unmanned aircraft system over the property on at least one previous occasion; and

(b)​

The person notified the owner or operator of the unmanned aircraft system that the person did not want the unmanned aircraft system flown over the property."

I have told the neighbor to call me immediately when they see a drone flying over their property. Her last name is Downer but her first name is not Debbie.... ;o)

Oh, it really sounds like Oregon is taking the FAA’s jurisdiction. What if you just do a high flyover such as on a leg of an autonomous mapping gig? The owner does not own the air 300-400 ft AGL…
