In Vrasna is probably located the ancient Thracian city of Visaltia Brea mentioned by Thucydides I, 64.4. In 446/5 BC. Pericles had founded an Athenian heritage in it, whose founding resolution had been found earlier in this village. Brea, whose name is related to the Thracian word vria = city cf. The city of Mesim-vria existed until the time of Philip II, while later in Roman times it seems that its population may have been absorbed by Amphipolis or some other neighboring city. The ancient place name "Brea" was probably saved corrupted in the newer name Vrasta Vrasna of the village.
