Well...I did it.

Let's us know. Too many horror stories for me to risk customs. I'll just wait for Adorama or B&H to get them across the border.

Decal Girl really needs to make a Turtle themed wrap for these! 😂

They really do look like turtles.... I liked the size and format of my Mavic 3 Pro better though the Mavic 4 Pro is superior in every way otherwise. The Mavic 4 Pro is much larger, something I am unsure the reason for as it adds weight that might have been translated into even more flying time and takes away a little of the portabilty.

Is it possible to get care refresh on grey market drones?
DJI Care Refresh is only available for authentic (non-counterfeit) DJI drones meaning the serial number is valid with DJI. If your drone qualifies, you can only purchase DJI Care Refresh in the region where the drone was purchased.

I saw this morning that one of the South Korean stores on ebay had the CC for $3645. After tax, $3799. This is the same store that @Saladshooter purchased from with no additional customs fees.

Anyone wanna volunteer to do a drum roll for a week, week and a half?! You gotta be cheap cause I'm outta money 🤔
Yeah, I bought one from Germany

And if it gets broken where do you go with it.
For State Farm, in my experience if you crash your covered drone and you file a claim, they will ask for a copy of the receipt and maybe a brief explanation of the crash ("I crashed my drone while flying for fun in the city park when it hit a tree and the drone is totaled") and you'll get a check in the mail for the amount that you paid for the drone. Usually you will not be asked for photos or for the crashed drone back but you can look forward to a likely cancellation and whatever that entails.

ETA: this cancellation only applies to the standalone drone -only policy and is not applicable to standard policies such as home, auto, and personal items, etc.

This seller seems very cognizant regarding customs fees when sending to the US. After thanking them, I casually mentioned, "hopefully there won't be any additional fees when it gets to customs." To which they replied, "we will adjust the declaration value carefully to help minimize the chance of customs charges. We truly hope your new drone clears customs smoothly. Wishing you a great flight ahead!"

Which was pretty much the best answer ever, I thought. After Saladshooter's success, I felt like my best bet was on the same seller.

Yeah, not having a warranty or care refresh is probably the biggest drawback on this deal, but I have been a state farm customer for years, and a 4000 dollar personal articles policy will be only 60 bucks for the whole year. So the no warranty isn't a deal breaker for me. On the day I receive it, before I even open the box, I'm going down to my agents office and have that policy written. When I renewed my car insurance last week, I told them I was thinking about doing this, so they're ready for me.

Side note: I had a 3600 dollar policy written on my MacBook Pro M1 Pro when it came out a few years back. I didn't put apple care on it since I had the policy, and when a charging cable got between the display and keyboard, cracking the display, I made a call and they deposited 3600 bucks in my bank account within a couple of days. They didn't even ask for the old computer, which still worked, just no display. They then forwarded that same policy to my new MacBook Pro M3 Max and I just recently paid the yearly premium of 60 bucks just the other day. There was never any threat of cancelation because I made a claim. On the contrary, they seemed delighted to want to insure more of my stuff. And I'm delighted to let them.

The gentleman who posted his YT video about his drone stuck in customs, there's a comment on his video that says "UPS International team tells me they need a revised invoice with a full description of the contents and its declared value in USD."

As customs starts to catch on, the loophole will be closed. Maybe it's time to pull the trigger now....

You are correct, I'll revise my post. The cancellation comment applies to the standalone drone ONLY policy that anyone can walk in off the street and get it.

Yeah, that would make sense if you only had a drone insured with them. I guess they figure they will eventually recoup that payout through my car insurance, which I am a very safe driver - haven't filed a claim in 20 years, but I am very hard on equipment. Especially when I take risks to get "the shot."
