What Ban?

Unfortunately we have a lot of folks that continue to be confused about this and no amount of explaining is going to clear up a "government process" because like I said earlier, when the government gets involved, chaos is inevitable. There might be a certainly amount of clarity on some topics today but this time next year, it's going to be a circus. Trust me.

We are the experts, it's clear to some of us but 90% of the people will never understand this as long as the phrase "DJI drones are banned in America" continues to live on. I hate to say it and no disrespect but for many, this is just over their heads. The common person shouldn't have to understand any of this; they don't have to with cars and computers and phones and cameras. The burden should be on the manufacturers and sellers but this will be shifted to the consumers and I think it's done on purpose to create even more confusion, stoke animosity, spread misinformation, and cause just enough uncertainty to destabilize the drone industry and make sure it never gets back to any sort of meaningful regularity which is required to stabilize prices, inventory, and availability. In the meantime, less and less people are willing to commit their hard-earned time, money, and expertise into the drone community.

My opinion follows:
Let the "ban" sink in for now and phase two "revocation" will be a hot topic for this spring, just in time for the summer drone flying season. Ultimately it leads to what I have always mentioned....government confiscation.

Yep, the sky is falling again. The Dronestapo are staging their forces for an assault on our precious drones. But don't lose sight of the massive crime wave against drone operators triggered by RID. It's undoubtedly just about to break loose and we're all in imminent danger. Put on the camo Kevlar vest and hard hat before you go out to fly tomorrow morning and be sure the bear spray is still pressurized. Don't get caught unprepperpared.

(I hear the confiscation teams are compiling lists of prime targets. First to be seized will be the unopened and unused drones still sealed in plastic on closet shelves. Big Brother has been monitoring shipments and posts, you know.)

I think it's misleading to say "Future DJI products are 'banned' in the US but all previous products are 'approved.'"

You can't ban something that doesn't exist and the FCC has never said your drones are "approved" but only that they are certified and the Dec 22nd ruling does not impact them....yet. So that's code for "...but they might be impacted later." The FCC continues to believe current DJI drones are "bad for national security" and the FCC hasn't "approved" of anything and we're going to find out more about that soon.

Anyway, it's more accurate to say "Here's what you won't be getting in the US" because these technically can't get FCC certification (this is a rumored product floating around on the internet):

It's a great example but it's just a rumor and it clearly shows why you should not call it a "banned future product" because that makes no sense for something that doesn't actually exist; besides there are no guarantees because the certification process has an exemption or waiver provision which could allow it (doubtful). Still, once these new products launch, calling "future" products as banned products will no longer make sense from a timing perspective. Instead, words matter and we should describe it as "All products without FCC certification cannot be sold or used in the US." That would be *all* products whether in the past, today, or in the future. There is no published list of banned products that I am aware of and I doubt one will be officially started.

My point is even though you have good, solid equipment that works well, it's high tech, and it will last for years to come, it's going to be quite pointed how damaging this "ban" really is once "the entire rest of the world moves on."

it's the FAA registration list
With that said, they do have a number for me that indicates I have a camera with the capability to move through the air.
They just don’t know HOW MANY and where to look other than one address.
As with firearms, they don’t have the time or money it would take them to retrieve what this one owner has collected. Then there’s the crowd that didn’t bother with the registration theme.
Things can and will change and I’ll cross that bridge when it rears its ugly head.
