What happens if you set the home point to the mavics location while in flight at say 200ft.
What will happen of you just leave it there to let the battery run out, controller on or off?
What will happen if you fly off a ways and let the battery run out?
Will it eventually come directly down and try to land below the 200ft home point?
Does it judge how much battery it takes to descend the 200ft to the ground?

Home point is always directly below the Mavic when it is set, so regardless if the controller is on or off, or if you are over the home point or not, the Mavic is going to initiate a RTH when the power left approaches the power it calculates will be needed to cover the distance to home point, and whatever RTH height has been set, in comparison to its current height and location.

Of course, this is a calculation, and there is probably a bit of wiggle room, but it does not take into consideration other factors like wind, so personally I would rather be in control and use extra batteries instead of running each one dry!

Reread the manual it will give you answers [emoji38]

The manual does not cover this completely
I know at least when i was on frameware .300 when it would come in for an auto landholding and fail to find a spot due to detected obstruction it would hover at a few feet until finally doping out of the sky like a rock when the battery runs out.

It's so crazy how many people fly way out and then initiate RTH to get it back. RTH is for emergencies, as far as I am concerned.

That's true but it's probably a good idea to test it out now and again especially in a non urgent environment. That way you know what it can and can't do.
One thing I learned after some trials was to be careful about anything above the Drone or even over the landing site.
I'm thinking when flying under trees or an overhang and the RTH is set to rise up before returning.

Not sure how this is related to this thread.

Just thought I'd throw something worth reading in this otherwise gibberish post.

What if you set the home point at 200' AGL where the Mavic is what will happen? It will seek the ground. I don't believe the "home point" can be set at 200' in the air. It will shoot a line straight down.

You should try it. Let us know.
