What's the best way to abort a waypoint mission?

When I had a Phantom, I used to read posts from people who flew waypoint missions where meeting an obstacle might be possible. They would usually talk of keeping their finger over the P-A-F switch, ready to switch to manual if the bird got too near to anything.

With my Mavic, up to now I've kept my finger on the RTH button on the controller in case this happened. I tried pressing it in a test waypoint mission, and it seemed to work, but I couldn't decide whether it would operate fast enough if I really were about to collide with something.

So I was wondering: is there a 'right way' to abort a waypoint mission if you think you're about to hit something?
