Why doesn't the mini allow switching from 2.4 to 5.8 like the air?

I noticed at least with the FCC version we only are offered 5.8GHZ. Is there a reason you cannot switch to 2.4 like with the Air? Thanks.

because it is 5.8 only if you are in the USA
I don't think so. b777ba is correct, I think.

When my MA is in the USA, I can choose from the full range.

DJI's FCC declaration clearly states that the FCC model is restricted to 5725~5850MHz by firmware "for the purpose of marketing", just as said above.
Means: the FCC model will never operate on other frequencies, regardless of location.
