Hello,

I tried to find information on the internet regarding the differences between h.264 and h.265.
I am new to the topic of film making and would like to know if there is a difference in image quality when I use h.265 instead of h.264. Or is it just the file size?
I film with the Zoom.

Thank you in advance

if there is a difference in image quality
Boy, that's opening up a can of worms! IMO, no. Audio or Video. Some pixel peepers will say yes, they can tell. But if you send the same file to different monitors (that their not use too seeing all day long) they'll not be able to tell, already tried this with folks here at the base.... They can't tell the difference, it's funny  "Color grading" is a different beast tho which was not your question, not to mention rendering times using the .h265

Thanks for your answer.

I can't tell the difference aswell. But my screen (MacBook Pro) can not display 4K so I don't know if that is the reason or not. I shot today 2 similar shots, one in 4K 24fps d-Cinelike h.264 and the other 4K 24fps d-Cinelike h.265 with same light conditions and I can really not see any difference at all.
What's odd is that the size of the file is more or less the same. Why is that? Same quality and same size of file? I don't understand that one.

What about color grading? Do I have more possibilities with H.265 than with H.264?

The advantages from this platform is it's 10bit color, and the use of a 1"sensor. If you have the computer HP go for the h.265 and choke the horse taping at 4k.

For me, 2.7 looks better, and most of the time I only shoot 1080 anyway.
