Why so complicated filenames for images and videos?

DJI tries to follow a standard for naming conventions:

The file naming scheme is "DJI_0000.file_extension" where the 0000 is a sequential four digit number starting with 0001 and ending with 0999. Once it reaches the later, it resets and starts again at 0001. I don't see what is complicated about that. Now, if you are asking why it stops at 0999 instead of 9999; that is a valid question

Visatown, why do you think it to be complicated? What would you rather they named the files.

The more complicated the name, the less likely there will be a duplicate somewhere on your network.

and I believe there is a setting to continue the numbers so it doesn't reset each flight.

To clarify my question, I took 2 images and 1 video, after formatting the SD cards of both M2P and Smart Controller.
Here are the directory listings:

On the SD card of the M2P: folder DCIM\100MEDIA:

Clearly I have the recorded files (same filesize) on my SC, but with what I call complicated filenames.

What kind of filenames do you have on your controller?

OK, got you now. The files on the SC are the cached versions of what is recorded on the SD card in the AC. As such they are quite unimportant (they are also very likely very low res versions of what is recorded on the memory card in the AC).

Clearly I have the recorded files (same filesize) on my SC, but with what I call complicated filenames.

Look for a setting to stop saving the cache files ... unless you can think of a reason to hang on to with low-res thumbnails.

Please notice that the files on the AC and on the SC (...\DJI Album) have exactly the same sizes (look at the size after the date and hour in my directory printouts). The SC directory ...\CACHE_IMAGES contains (very small) thumbnails, including one for the video.
