why will my Mavic only sometimes connect to my phone

it will spontaneously go on for about 30 seconds and then say the aircraft isn't connected

Probably a cable issue.
Use a different one and see if that solves the problem.
A little more info on what you’re doing will help.

I had a similar problem and replaced the cable that connects the remote to the phone. Problem solved.
