Worried about flying over abrupt drop off.

I have noticed with my bebop that it will drop to X-height when flying over banks and other drop offs, like it has a built in terrane follow mode.
will the mavic stay at X-height or will if drop like a rock.
The reason I'm asking, there is a 300 foot deep canyon I want to film and don't want to hire rock climbers to retrieve my drone

It will not drop! The Barometer is not going to care if a 300 ft drop just happened. People fly these things off the side of high rise balconies and roof tops all the time.
