DJI have found the answer. With such excellent quality pictures with the zoom lens you can be a long way away and still get perfect shots. The number one reason as far as I am concerned to buy one.

We know that when you go from the wide lens to the zoom lens you have to stop record before switching. But the other thing that I haven't seen in the M3 is the SMOOTHNESS of the zoom. As I pointed out, the M2 had a lot more features on the M2 controller, one of which being a zoom wheel for the M2Z (aperture control wheel on M2P). Which brings me to another question...

On the M3 with variable aperture, like the M2P how easily can you adjust the aperture. With the M2P a push of the wheel can change it in either direction. Super convenient, especially when conditions change and you just have to adjust. I do not want to go into the app to change something like that. The M2's controller has so many more programmable buttons. The only complaint I've heard about the M2 controller is that some folks like their phones above the controller rather than at the bottom. For me that makes no difference, but the lighter weight, LCD screen and multitude of buttons does....

... And to think you have to shell out $5k to get the deluxe controller. WTxIUWD?

Zoom was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to buy the M3 until I saw that it had no RAW photos or manual control. Seriously? What was DJI thinking of doing? How can a $2200 to $5000 drone not have a basic pro control which a $400 mini drone does

The M3 has no zoom lens (everything is digital based off of two fixed focal length lenses), however according to DJI, the telephoto lens is for "exploring" or "scouting" rather than bein intended for any kind of serious shooting. To me that sounds like a dumb idea thought up in a board room that somehow made it to production. The quality from it is also very poor from what I have seen so far, so I personally wish they didn't have it at all unless they plan to dramatically increase it's usefulness with firmware.

You also cannot use D-Log with it.

It’s just a terminology. I know there isn’t any zoom. Even the DJI app doesn’t call it a tele lens. That lens is used when the display says 7x zoom.
