A RID enforcement question for Big Al, Vic Moss or Greg(PI)

The FAA. Odds are any violation will be discovered by local PD on a drone call out. They’ll take any information and forward it to local FSDO. From there, FSDO will determine the next step.

Thanks for the question and answer.

It seems extremely unlikely that people will have enforcement actions taken against them by the FAA (or local LEA for that matter) for the sole reason that they did not have RID. It will almost always be because of some other rule violation, such as flying over people, in controlled airspace without authorization, reckless and careless, etc.

Yes, it is unlikely someone will be contacted, but even if so, RID is supposed to be used as an educational opportunity.

But it would certainly depend on the attitude of the person being contacted by the LEO. If the drone owner has an attitude with the PD, and they don't have RID, that will be taken into account by both the LEO and the subsequent FAA FSDO person assigned to the case.

RID will be enforced (in theory) after 3/16/24. So folks will need to be compliant by them.
