if you are in a hilly area, if you have the rth height set at say 100 ft in a valley, or low point, will it keep the 100 ft as it goes over hills and such, or will it stay level no matter what the geography is.

It normally stays level. So, for example, if you launch at a higher location, and go into a valley, you should reduce your height to remain a max of 400 ft above the valley floor.

There are situations - terrain follow mode and return to home with obstacle avoidance - where the mavic will respond to terrain objects and go higher automatically, but it will never go lower.

The Mavic's height is always related to your take off point, which it takes as zero. So, if your RTH is set at 100 ft it will only rise to 100 feet above where you took off. It has no idea how high above the ground it is at any time....it only knows how high it is relative to the take off point.

Following on from this post, I flew along and up a hill, wanting to go over a monument that is below the height limit however it wouldn't go over it as it's was the combined hill plus monument heights so had to re-set.
