GPS RECEIVER ONLY FLIGHT

Has anyoned tried to use a GPS receiver (such as Garmin GLO, Bad Elf or Dual), for follow me function on its own?
Was wondering if the remote control and phone could be dropped and use a GPS recevier only for "follow me". Such as the air leash or similar.

Have you tried Active Track mode?
With this flight mode you don't need to hold the RC nor the phone.

Yes, I did, but from time to time it stops following. I believe follow me with a strong GPS signal should work better.
