Mavic Pro fly away.

Just a thought here, but what if he lost GPS right after the flight record ended and it went into ATTI mode. Also, I'm wondering if his compass was compromised some how before takeoff or after takeoff, but if that were true, I would think he would have gotten a compass error, so not sure about that? Marc.

That certainly could have happened, but would require two, almost-simultaneous failures. More likely it was sudden power loss - i.e. just one failure.

800 feet distance and 400 feet altitude are far enough for the Mavic to be out of sight. Are you sure you didn't fly uphill and/or behind an obstacle (hill, building?) so that when the RTH was triggered automatically (upon losing the RC signal) it did not crash into that obstacle trying to make its usual beeline flight home? [I ask this because that's how I lost my Mavic 2: https://mavicpilots.com/threads/how-i-lost-my-mavic-2-zoom.50498/ ]

The OP hasn't even logged into the forum since they posted a week ago.
They can't be very interested to find out.
Without data, no-one can tell what happened.
