New Mavic Air 2S pilot living in DC where I have to go 15miles out of state to fly it

Used to live in DC, the place of many restrictions. Now retired to SW NH, the place of no restrictions! You're right though, you need to travel. DC takes its restrictions pretty seriously. FAA takes its restrictions seriously. Local parks and such? Dunno, but I bet if you're being responsible while flying in a place with a local restriction, the worst you'd hear is a request to stop, and probably not that. Any other folks have experiences to report?
