Pairing a new controller question

I’ve been keeping an eye out for a crazy good deal on a 2 Pro and have seen a couple of deals for “drone only” or “No controller”. Is it possible/practical to bind a new (or used) controller to a different drone? What would be needed to register, activate assuming this isn’t coming in a DJI box with instructions & serial numbers etc.?
No doubt it would be a risk, but if everything was legit would DJI accept the new combination?

Yes. you can pair a controller with "another" drone assuming the models are compatible. I have used my care refresh on the Mavic Air 2 twice and only got a new drone, not a new controller. BTW, both care fresh cases were not my doing it was simply a problem with the gimbal or camera itself.

Just make sure the "drone only" isn't one that's been "found". It could be bricked by DJI if the original owner reported it stolen or missing.
