Receiving seems to be a little weaker vs transmitting but it's difficult to tell because I rarely get signal drops when using it. But this is expected because I haven't made any changes to the drone so its going to have a weaker outgoing signal than the controller.
The antenna is a (very cheap)...
I'm very happy with it! When I need some extra power it only takes a couple minutes to assemble. I never have range issues now.
Here's how it looks when I've got it all kitted up.
And when I'm done it disassembles into pieces that fit in a little case.
And of course if I want to get up...
My drone is completely stock, but I've made some upgrades to my controller because I have some issues with wifi interference. I didn't have have much luck with the parabolic or yagi antennas.
So I 3D printed a new bottom for my controller with two holes for SMA connectors. The left connector...
I don't think DJI is trying to scam anyone, I think they are just playing it safe.
The blades need to be as symmetrical as possible for balance reasons. I believe if they are not balanced then you might run into lift issues or extra vibration which could lead to damage.
There could be any...
I don't think it is possible to run the motors during an update or start an update while the motors are running. I couldn't think of any reason the drone would take off suddenly, short of a sensor error. But I agree there is probably some small risk involved. I've done it a number of times with...
Mine don't seem to be perforated. No air can get in.
I think they're just held on with glue, I wonder if you could bring the weight down another gram by taking them off.
It's an Android specific problem. If you have one handy, you could try using an iPhone or iPad. Otherwise, you're going to want to charge the controller fully before you fly. It should still last long enough to fly for at least an hour. Maybe keep a portable battery bank handy, too.
It could also be that you're witnessing the power-saving feature. If you leave the controller turned on and don't touch it for a few minutes, it will begin to beep. A few minutes after that, it will shut itself off.
I use the Mavic Mini all the time with my 2018 iPad (wifi only) and it works just fine. You only need internet for software/firmware updates as far as I know.
There is a toggle for payload mode in the DJI Fly menu under Safety > Advanced Settings. You may be able to use this option to override the restrictions. It might force it back on though, I haven't tried it myself.
Flying in a suburban area with the FCC version at around 250ft, I was only able to make it about 500m before I got interference warnings and then lost signal. Probably a lot of wifi from the houses.
I flew my Mavic Mini to the other side of my house, roughly 30ft away (and blocked by the house, of course) and I could not hear it in the slightest. I was only about 20ft in the air. It's insanely quiet unless you're directly near it.
