No one (except the pros) needs a drone. I buy them because I love new toys. I have a Mini, an Air, and a Mavic2 Pro. Most of my flying is VOLS. I am not a camera tweeker. I just set everything on auto and let it roll. Honestly, I think the most "bang for the buck" is the Mavic Air.
I have flown many times over our horses and my neighbors cattle and none of them has paid any attention to my (screaming) MA. I don't "buzz" them but I have gone as low as 25 feet above them. No pigeons here, but the crows really hate it.
The iPad mini 5 is all you need. I like it better than my SC. It barely fits in the controller arms, but it makes it. That being said I still use my iPhone XS Max 90% of the time.
Buy a small (toy) drone and fly it around the living room. (Never mind the German Shepherd trying to snag it out of the air.) Great practice and will cost well under $50.
