General questions about flying near a class E airport

Kapalua is class E to the surface. If you are flying for hire here you need a waiver. Check an AFD for hours it is class G but I would imagine most of the year it’s only class g at night. A simple email to the airport manager the day before is enough to go fly for personal fun time

    Please review airspace’s before flying

Pulling into my neighborhood today a guy was about to takeoff with a DJI phantom drone, he was the photographer for a wedding at a golf course. Where he was planning to fly was .8 miles from the end of the runway of a class D airport. I am a pilot and often time will make this approach...

    How many batteries is enough?

I got the fly more package that came with 3. Start with 3 fully charged. When I put the 3rd one in the drone, the first one goes on the charger (gives the first time to cool down). During the short ~15 lapse time I charge my controller. With this setup I can fly through 6 batteries with only a...

3rd Party Mavic Pro batteries in use...

It is not meant to be toxic dude. And by all means, use 3rd party parts. You have checked voltages and seemed to have done your due diligence to confirm they work just the same. But somebody who isn’t as tech savvy or unaware may read a post regarding how it’s all sunshine and rainbows and throw...

3rd Party Mavic Pro batteries in use...

Mavic batteries have a serial number attached to them. I could be wrong, but I would imagine the battery serial number is logged in the dgi flight logs and if an event happened the use of that 3rd party battery could be deemed the cause of failure. Possibly voiding any warranty you may have...

First week with Mavic Pro. My experience and questions

I have had the Mavic Pro for 7 days now. In that time I have flown 5.5 hours and 200,000 feet over 35 flights in 8 different locations. I am slowly getting more comfortable with its range and abilities but feel like I have barely touched the drone's capabilities. Couple things I haven't figured...

    POLL: What's your Mavic's Odometer?

Had for 4 days so far. Tryin to get a grasp how many hours I’ll be able to get out of it. When I bought it, I was thinking if I can get 20 hours out of it, it would be well worth the money. Looks like most get WAY more. How often do you have to service it, get new batteries, etc?

If in the US, have you read Sec 336?

I don’t know how much I’m going to be flying my Mavic under the 336 rules. I’m familiar with how airspace works and the part 107 rules are much simpler. + I’ll be operating on a faa certificate, following the FAA rules, flying a drone with N numbers. So unless they are a fed, or I am standing...

State, County & City laws, ordinances or codes that restrict U.S. airspace legal?

Experienced drone pilots. What is your take on this? If I am flying a drone with a N number and I have an airman certificate, so I just carry around a print out of 107 FARS and hand it to anybody who questions me? If it is someone who has some sort of other authority demanding they have...

Ground elevation on a sectional chart

Everything on this map is well above sea-level so you can rule that out. And if you look at all marked obstacles above 2500, they are all very tall obstacles, ruling 2700 out. making 2000-2500 the answer

    New drone pilot Concord CA

Just got a Mavic Pro. Spent the hour to get my sUAS "Airman" certificate, registered the drone under part 107 and registered myself to fly under section 336. Excited to try this thing out when the weather clears up. I am a Commercial pilot (manned airplanes) as well and before about 3 days ago...
