OH lookie another drone at 4,000 ft

Fair point, but ownership of the larger drones you mention is pretty much restricted to commercial UAS operators who are employing them for particular missions. It is hard to see what good commercial reason they would have for deploying the drone at that height on the flightpath into Luton...

    Solitaire Ace enclosures

On re-reading my post, it seems a bit didactic because, of course, we each have our different ways of doing things. I've always suffered a lot from the glare from tablet screens and found that I can only get the view I needed by using hoods. If you have flown quite happily without having to...

    Solitaire Ace enclosures

I often fly from rough terrain in the Western Highlands in less than ideal weather and sometimes with midges. I find the Solitaire keeps the glasses firmly attached to my head no matter what else is going on. The dark shades available from Rochester cut down glare while still allowing you to...

    Longer range!

I hadn't noticed this - would be really useful if it works for me. I routinely start to lose signal a couple of miles out. Unfortunately I shall not be flying in the immediate future, but when I do it will be the first thing I shall check.

Is it ok to cancel drone initiated low battery RTH

I mostly fly in the mountains and use RTH a great deal, usually when it kicks in to give me enough power to get home. One thing that's not been mentioned so far is that you don't need to cancel RTH to modify your altitude as the aircraft is coming back. As the RTH proceeds I normally reduce...

Smart Glasses w/regular controller...or just Smart Controller?

Difficult one. I have owned my BT-300s for about a year. For me they provide the best visibility solution by far, even compared to a double decker Hoodman with tripod mounted iPad mini, which is my other set-up. I use the BT-300s mounted in the Rochester Optical Solitaire enclosure with the...

    Drone shot down in UK.

Yes, I agree. It was interesting that it took several shots to hit the drone and that, even then, it was able to fly home. I have no experience with shotguns but I would have expected more. The initial shots showed up as a solid line in the video so he may have had the gun on full choke.

    Drone shot down in UK.

In the judgement, Judge Griffiths stated "I can find no support in authority for the view that a landowner's rights in the air space above his property extend to an unlimited height." and it is certainly the case that 'ordinary commercial and private flights would, in any event, have been...

    Drone shot down in UK.

Any remedy under civil law would not be a defence against a charge of criminal damage.

Micro SD Card Removal Tool (by DDH)

Me too. MSinger has worked wonders for unlucky pilots since this forum started and I have learnt so much along the way. Respect.

    Drone shot down in UK.

I hope you all have a great time on your visits and the weather stays good ! The fox hunting legislation is a mess, as you say, and very difficult to enforce. Some hunts certainly take advantage of that to continue as before, but the saboteurs certainly manage to spoil their day some of the...

    Drone shot down in UK.

Absolutely not. There is little or no fox hunting in the Highlands - though deer stalking and driven grouse and pheasant shooting do occur. Deer stalking only happens in the Autumn and late Winter and well away from the road. Very low chance of catching an accidental bullet and I suspect most...

Difficult to see the phone's screen in daylight

I use two alternative set-ups. One involves mounting my ipad mini on a tripod and connecting to the controller with a 2m USB-lightning cable. Attached to the iPad is a full (two stage) Hoodman which I look down into. This pretty much cuts out all reflection, but the disadvantage is that it...
