Something like the cp2112 will allow you to reprogram it. I didn't notice the motors being hot after a flight, just warm which they usually are. Are you planning on replacing the entire battery with lipos or using a lipo addon pack? Since they are different chemistries you could run into trouble...

I just finished building my own if you have questions. It gave me 44 minutes of flight time in my longest flight. It makes the drone a lot louder though with the increase of weight - sounds like it does flying in sport mode.

Do you still have video feed? My gimbal randomly died on mine as well, ended up replacing the cable between the drone and the assembly as well as the circuit board above the camera to no success. I ended up just sending it to dji for repair.

I recently started using iMovie for editing as well, and I like its native option to export at 4k which I wasn't getting from DJI fly or the free version of Adobe Rush.
