2 Men face charges

This is a screen grab of a portion of the FAA's UAS (drone) Facility Map for the location under discussion. I placed a blue dot on Long Island to mark the location of the decommissioned Long Island Health Campus, the place from which the perps were (allegedly) flying the drone. The distance from the blue dot to Logan airport is approximately 3 miles.

so they got arrested by missing the grid by a "few feet?" how dare they?

if that's the case, where are the charges? like I said, I'll wait for the facts.

It’s ok that you walk back or soften your comments.

I like to use the phrase "What are you afraid of?"
Then followed by "So, you admit you're afraid?"

Good, they should face charges. It's folks like them that add fuel to all the recent drone sighting garbage.
That said, it's the media hyping all this up in my opinion. A small number of these "sightings" are actually drones, and the ones that are have been lighted properly and flying legally. If stand outside at night looking in the sky and report every flashing object you see, you'd be pretty busy.

I read stories like this and it makes me tempted to sell off the fleet before the bottom falls out on the industry.

More comments here:

"Public officials have said investigators are unsure of where the drones came from or who they belong to, but maintain that there is no known threat to public safety."

No threats but arrests have been made? Does "unsure" mean you have no probable cause? The airports and the military bases and the critical infrastructure folks claim they have hundreds of incidents constantly over the years. This high-profile arrest is clearly an attempt to link the situation with the ongoing events in NJ in some way. As if these guys are responsible, now that they are in jail, does that mean the "drones" will stop? Are we going to arrest the hundreds of other people responsible for flying their drones illegally over and near places they shouldn't be? Do you think we can just arrest our way to solving this problem?

There are no police strike forces with 24 cars going after people for minor drone violations. No prosecutions and asset seizures.

There will be no mass arrests of drone pilots.

Stay with reality instead of posting these absurd imagined horrors.

While You have a good point this stuff is NOT good for us at all and thanks to these lights in the sky stories the anti-Drone people now have plenty of ammo to begin to argue with the government too implement these new restrictive regulations. Who wants to bet that recreational pilots are going to lose their ability to fly at night!

Here's one person take on the current state of using drones in the public:

And as many know the left likes to create a disaster/emergency, then offer solutions to for the one they created. The NJ situation looks like one of these. They are now asking for money for a bill to add more control over drones in the US. Right or wrong, Incidents like this one just add fuel to their fire.

There is plenty of ignorance and ridiculous hysteria from ALL sides of the political spectrum. Just read some of the comments to the pertinent articles on the Boston Globe's website. People are eager to share their biases.

One doofus ranted about how a drone flying over his property would be its last flight.

Too much stupid going around.
