A Pennsylvania homeowner has allegedly shot down a DJI Mavic 2 Pro

food for thought
Is my humble opinion that the authorities should do the same for the rogue drones that interfere with airports and SAR....no better deterrent for rogue pilots when a 2k drone plummets from the sky with a single shot from an expert marksman just saying....

The only problem with that is it's got to land somewhere. No matter how 'expert' the marksman once he's hit the drone he has absolutely no control over where it's going to end up. Tough luck if you happen to be the woman with 3 kids and a pram walking along the street when it lands on you from a great height. There needs to be a better solution.

obviously in certain cases such as brush fires would be the ideal scenario

Or any other emergency situation for that matter, no argument from me there @DDS. In wide open areas rogue drones should be fair game by for downing whatever means, but in cities or wherever there are large crowds there needs to be some sort of safe way of controlling them. That's a solution for the techies and boffins to develop. :)

Great idea, have people shoot at drones with a rifle that is about as likely to kill someone beyond the target as it is to actually hit the drone.

Did not mean someone or "people" should take the law into their own hands. Rather A highly skilled and trained officer of the law.

Much has been discussed about the shooting down of a Drone and whether the drone is considered a toy by many judges and prosecutors is much a moot point if the bullet or bullets that later came down caused injury or death of an innocent bystander or to put a sharper point on the issue, what if the bullet came down and killed a small child playing in the school yard, or even coming down, ripping through the roof of a house and killing a baby in their crib…

Nuts with guns, indiscriminately shooting into the sky would not be tolerated at New Year's or the Fourth of July, why would it not be considered a felony all the time, rather than just "criminal mischief"?

Just saying…

Happy Droning and Fly Safe…

Their are more deer than people, and most of the people who live in that area are trying to hide from the Government
