Accessory Question - Charge iPhone & Controller Whilst In Flight

Guys, I'm trying to find a way to charge the iPhone and controller whilst they are both in use to allow continued flight.

If I had an external batter pack and this cable would it work (I'm guessing not as the lightning plug simply goes to the large USB connection and not looped back to the MicroUSB).

That will not work unfortunately.
There is no way to charge an iOS device whilst in flight with the exception that I think someone used a iPhone battery case with pass-through connector (to connect to the controller) but not sure how successful they were and that would only keep the phone running with the backup battery, probably not very well though as the app is quite resource intensive. Then charging the controller via the side port and a power block.

I have been looking at things since the beginning of November when I received mine. One option is to use a droid device in the bottom port and a power brick in the side and the other is to use an iPad Mini 4 with the controller which in combination (no need for power bricks etc.) will give you between 6 and 9 batteries worth of flight.
