I have sold my first 2 Drones privately and now need to put another one on the Classifieds but before I do, I wanted to get some feedback on the best way to do this,

NOTE: I'm not selling here and it's not about price.

So regarding:
Photos: I have added 13 full photos of product, accessories and screen shots from controller, Should they be thumbnails?
Shipping: Buyer will pay so do I need to get a max estimate on shipping cost?
CYA: What services are available for the exchange of the funds:

Anything else I might have missed?

Thanks

Scott

Not really clear, but I seem to think you are planning to sell here on the Mavic Pilots classified forum. Is that correct?
If so, just provide as many high quality photos as you can and as many product details as you can. It is up to you what you want to provide. You should be very clear about how payment will be made, how transfer will occur and how the buyer will be able to register the drone. DETAILS MATTER. Will it be an in-person purchase or shipping purchase? You're the seller, so these are you options.

Thanks for the info about the photos.
As stated, I'm selling in the classifieds, the Mavic Pilots classified forum.
Any information regarding: What services are available for the exchange of the funds:

The forum does not have any involvement in transfer of funds; it is simply an advertising option. Any payment or transfer of funds is strictly between buyer and seller. It is a case of seller beware and buyer beware.

Yes, I know that. That's why I'm asking for advice on What services are available for the exchange of the funds: This does not mean: What services does this forum offer

Please only reply if you have suggestions to the services question as we covered everything else.

You need to be pretty open with the buyer. Simply tell the buyer to discuss the sale thru a PM then arrange payment together..

I fall on the side of simplicity and because it's 2024, most of your good customers will have certain expectations.

Shipping is free. Add shipping into the cost of the product and pay for it yourself using the service that works for you. People are interested in your product, not all the details around the task of getting the package to them. If someone asks, fine but make it easy and keep this out of the deal.

Only take Paypal. Enough people have it, nobody has to worry about "protection" and everyone knows how to use it. If you can't stand the fees, add the fee into the price and then pay for it yourself. if someone really wants your product and they have been banned from PayPal or they don't trust the "banking process" then it's case by case but yeah, after one or two of those....you'll find out. the more payment method you deal with, the less you know about them which likely means the know more about it than you do (and that might not be a good thing).

It's just my opinion but I think you miss out on good buyers who won't even look twice at a listing if they have to add up taxes and fees and shipping costs, etc. The fair price you list is OTD.

No sales to Canada, AK, HI, APO/FPO, or out of country. Too difficult and you shouldn't be shipping drones out of the country anyway.

I try not to sell my equipment once it is broken and beat up and looks bad so usually one good picture is enough and saying it is is good to excellent condition. if someone needs more pictures, that fine. Honestly, you don't need a bunch of pictures to prove to anyone your equipment is in excellent shape, they will be able to see it as soon as they get it. I'm stuck with a lot of accessories and extras because buyers usually want the drone and the primaries like the battery, controller. A bunch of filters and landing mats and strobe lights and customs cases, etc.....honestly, that kinda a turnoff if you appears you are also charging for those because they are used and that's more your style...not very valuable to someone else. Plus it eliminates the questions, can I get the drone without the [accessories] for cheaper which you'l have to admit it's the same price. :). A nice HQ image that someone can zoom in on should be fine.

These are just my opinions, take whatever works for you. I list and price to sell quickly so those are my guidelines.

As suggested, Paypal is probably the best method for handling payment but as a seller you could also accept zelle which would have no fees but most buyers probably won't go for that since it offers no protection.

Definitely agree with all of the previous statements that you need to include shipping and transaction fees in your price. If you're looking to put a limit on your costs then you can limit shipping to CONUS and have the buyer pay for anything extra. Generally speaking, people tend to not get the price they want when selling something used, it's always a compromise so be up front with your ad. If the listed price is firm then say so in the ad. If you say obo then you're probably going to get someone offering you less than the list price.

@Looking Down On You the only place in the forum you can list personally owned drone related equipment for sale is in our Classifieds sub forum. All other sub forums are not to be used to list items for sale.
Yes, Its states that in my post heading as well as the post and I replied about it so I think we can now drop where it can be sold at in the Forum.

Lots of great information here and it's made me rethink my sale strategy. Thanks so much for the reply.

Well, you're certainly being patient with all the responses from folks who misinterpreted your question. Here's my offering.

Post the photos at normal size.

The buyer pays shipping and will probably select the method, so sort out the cost with them after they agree to buy. You might specify whether you're charging for packaging, apart from the fee for shipping. You might suggest the USPS flat rate boxes as the default shipping method and include that in your advertised price.

As the seller, you can be comfortable with Venmo, Zelle, or other similar methods, if you receive payment before shipping. From the buyer perspective, they offer no recourse or refund. Paypal's Goods & Services option offers protection and recourse for both parties.

For what it's worth, I think most folks on this forum with a reasonable history of participation and some demonstration of sanity are good bets for hassle-free sales via the classified forum.

It's a good idea to state the number of the batteries's charge cycles.

I laid my drone out with every accessory, case, etc. and labeled. Even had the lights on. Posted here, but also posted in the local facebook drone groups and got a hit within a week. Many police stations let you meet there for purchase transactions, craigslist, FB marketplace, etc. So we met outside the police station and did the cash / drone exchange. I unbound the drone in the new buyers presence after getting the money. Of course if I shipped I would have unbound before shipping, but preferred the in person sale to lower the risk.
