Aftermarket Batteries

On a similar note, one of my very expensive old yet very useful pro Canon bodies no longer have Canon branded batteries available so I had to resort to third party. Plus side is they work just fine, minus side is the mechanicals just aren't up to Canon standards and they don't latch in quite right (probably not waterproof like the OEM's).

I'd expect similar concerns for drone bats that come from non-DJI sources. Some day might have to cross that bridge since my Air2 is getting old.

Plenty of Air2/2s around, also look for the "fishing enthusiasts" who buy flymore kits, drown their drone, and have 2 batteries and remote left 😀

The only concern with the knock-off batteries may be unknown design/behaviour of the "smart battery" circuitry. Never know what they put in there, made from which components and running what firmware.

Keep in mind that having success with third-party batteries isn't evidence that they're not higher risk. It's not like they're more likely to explode and burn your house down than not.

Rather they're 10 times more likely than OEM. You know, 0.5% likely rather than 0.05%. 😁

Okay, those aren’t the real numbers, I have no idea what they really are. But it illustrates the point... The risk is small either way, it's just several times more than the matched, quality cells DJI module.

Stats can be misleading: a lot of the population will never admit to buying a 3rd party something that later destroys what they put it in.
