What do I need to know about air map? Is it any different than the DJI app? Is there any advantage?

I use it just for scanning airspace and checking regs. It's also capable of electronically filing a "flight plan" to alert nearby airports but I've never needed to use that feature. It can be used to fly the UAS too but I have yet to try.

TLDR; use it for flight planning, stick with DJI Go.

I use AirMap to file my flight plans and receive LAANC permission to fly. It is quite simple to use and they do have tutorials guides on their web site as well.
I do NOT use the AIRMAP built in DJI SDK to, fly. I use Litchi almost exclusively. Not withstanding the fact I must use the DJI GO 4 first to unlock the NFZs. I use my new iPad mini (Fathers Day present) as my flight screen linked via BT to my Note 8. After I have unlocked via Go4, I make Litchi active and immediately kill the GO4 app via 2x rapid tap on the iPad home then swipe up to kill the GO4.

There are quite a few tutorial/data pages to peruse: AirMap

Quite helpful on explaining “How to . . .” for Airmap.
