Am I reading right - the Mini 2 got photo zoom and the Air 2 did not?

Seems crazy, but is this true or did I misunderstand what I’ve read about the latest firmware update?

So, the Mini 2 and Air 2 can only zoom in video mode - still not in photo mode?
The Air 2 only supports Video zoom while the Mini 2 supports photo zoom with the latest update that was just released.
Hopefully the air 2 will also support photo zoom in a future FW update.

I believe that it is just a matter of time for the MA2 to also have photo zoom.

In the meantime, I will just have to drool over this new feature for the DM2 :p

Digital zoom is just cropping the image.
You can do it yourself in any graphics software.
Agreed, With the A2 having a 48 megapixel sensor, the results of cropping are not that bad.

Didn’t know that, about new mini 2 feature. (But based on experiences of others with updates, I’m a bit gun shy about installing them.)

As a previous poster, above, noted, this is just digital zoom. Zzzzz. Ever seen a photo that someone with a cell phone took while they zoomed in? Looks like doo-doo.

As a professional film maker for many years, I have never found digital zoom to have any professional value. Far better to frame the shot properly in the first place. The loss in quality intrinsic in digital zooms never makes up for the flexibility that it provides. Most amateur grade video cameras provide it. Rarely do you see pro level gear with it, despite the 1,000s of dollars more to purchase it.

Hello Dave:

I agree with you about the value of digital zoom with respect to final processed images. Where I do find it useful sometimes is a a means of getting an enlarged image on my screen for flying purposes and for getting a general idea of what detail I can expect from that final processed image. Thus I find it a handy tool for piloting and previewing images, but not a tool for recording actual images.
