I am trying to perfect my video recordings skills and trying to establish the best settings and editing methods. So far I understand that DLog-M is the format to go with, either FOV or HQ (H256) . What are the better FPS to select from, I am of the understand the higher the number the better, e.g. FOV 30 FPS

The bigger question is around editing the Dlog-M flies in Premier Pro. My understanding here, is that one uses proxies of the files to overcome the slow processing speed of the 256 files.

Lets start with these basic questions and proceed to others later.. Thanks

With my M2P I always record in H.265, 10-bit color, and D-Log. I also use Premiere Pro CC 2018. What I do is I ingest to create proxies as 1280x720 files. Using these attached proxies, everything works fairly smoothly, including color-grading.

Do you use 24 fps or 30 fps. Also, what do you for LUTS in Premiere Pro, if you use any specific ones. Thanks.

I shoot in 24 fps.

As for LUTs, I don't really use any. I've tried a few, but what works for one video, doesn't work for others. Even every other clip in a project may require a different LUT. I don't tend to overdo my grading, so I don't mine grading on-the-fly, manually.

That said, if anyone can recommend a general purpose LUT for typical grading (no extreme coloring, etc), I would consider it. ;)

So, I've changed my mind (and my video post-processing workflow) and now use the LUT from DJI's Mavic download page (the name of it is, "DLog-M to Rec709 LUT"). It is a "log normalization" LUT (aka, "technical" LUT) and not a "creative" LUT.

It really works well. I use Premiere Pro and I simply create an adjustment layer and apply the LUT to the layer, so that it emcompasses multiple clips (and so I can remove it from sections of clips, if needed).

Thanks. I will try it.
