Are the RE Goggles really worth it?

Hi Folks,

I’m new to droning & in the market for an MP2, I’ve been patiently waiting & lurking on this forum for a while.

I’m an avid photographer but never really got in to video, the new 1” sensor & additional functionality is what drew me in. However, I’d love to try my hand at video too.

I notice that DJI have a deal including the RE but I’m not entirely sure if it’s worth splashing out the extra £400 especially as I’ve had no experience with them.

At the end of the day the Fly More & Care options come to almost the same price & to me, represent considerably more value...

So what are your thoughts, worthwhile?

Thanks

I haven't tried either those or the originals, so barring any paradigm shifting epiphanies donning the goggles in person may elicit, my opinion is as follows.

I get more than enough clarity and detail with my iPad mini 4 screen than I need, so for "serious" photography work the goggles are a joke. Not to mention technically illegal in Australia where I fly (we don't have the secondary operator clause like in the US' FAA pt 107. Maaaaaaaybe doable through SOCs as part of an REoC accreditation, but I'm not forking out 4 grand+ for "weeeee I can flyyyyyyyy" feeling.)
I'm sure they're great fun to use, but I see much more value in buying Care refresh (replacement of a 2300AUD aircraft for only 170 bucks? Yes please.), more batteries, or even something like the absurdly bright CrystalSky if sunlight is an issue for you (assuming the processor can keep up with the 1080p video feed).

The originals were perfect with the Mavic Pro. I now have the RE version with the Mavic 2 and what aload of rubbish! Something you would expect from parrot not the worlds leading drone maker!

Thanks folks, personally I was of the opinion that the other options were of far more value to me personally.

Just wondered if I’d kick myself for not buying the goggles as they’re cheaper as a package. Sounds as though I won’t :)

Yup, all depends what you want. To me getting an insanely great live view and feeling of flight is marvelous and the Mavic/DJI goggles combo is the very best way there is to experience that.
As usual at launch things are currently a bit broken with the M2 it seems but no doubt they'll fix that through updates soon enough.

Thanks again folks, I think I’ll pass on the deal, as it is I’m having to play down the cost to the boss

I think I’ll get more value for now out of the Fly More & Care Refresh
