Im just curious, everyone tells me in crazy but I have 5 computers with 3 being my main daily users with state of the art parts with a combined 54 tb of storage.
so many times ive lost home movies because of the old outdated technologies so now ive converted everything to the pc with multiple copies in case of drive failure.
ive spent countless hours scanning pic from most every relative i have and have built quite a collection,of course lots are old and not the best quality but thats the beauty of it and now hope to use the Mavic to add even more to my collection
So does anyone else share this hobby?

I don't think you're crazy at all! Wish I could afford to have even one of those. We also have thousands of photos yet to scan and some old home movies to convert from VHS but it's such a pain on my equipment. Let's not even talk about editing Mavic footage

Ive spent loads of time and tons of money compiling my video library
some of the best footage ive got is actually from a security camera that records my family room, its set to record 24/7,eats up almost 2tb a day but the recordings of the kids playing are priceless.
my wife says im crazy but she likes watching them and will even more so to be able to look back when they were younger.
also vhs have a shelf life of 7-10 years, after that they degrade rapidly.

I have 20 years of digital pictures. The first digital camera I had used 3.5" disks to save on in the camera. Most of my video though is still on VHS and Hi8 and needs to be converted. I have the computing power and storage space, but I just don't have the time. When my last kid left the nest I turned his room into an editing studio. I have a 23" 1080p monitor, a 32" 1080p and a 23" 4k monitor. The only slow thing in the computer is the video card. I really need a bigger one to speed up things a little. Editing 4k from GoPros and the Mavic is very time consuming when it comes to rendering it out.

I started out years ago doing video slide shows as a side business when my kids were in high school. I actually made decent money at it for a weekend kind of job, but my passion has been video. I really like telling a story and I do it best with video. Which I do sometimes use a combination of video and pictures in what I do. The problem is I just don't make any money at it. It is good enough for me, but I just don't think I could make any money at it, so it is just a fun hobby for me.

BTW, I have some VHS that is 25 years old and it still looks decent. Which I kept it in a dark cool closet. I also have some film that I have kept in the refrigerator for 35 years. We pull out a roll now and again and get it developed. It is like opening a time capsule.

sounds like you have a handle on whats needed to do editing and such and like you i kept all my vhs in a basement room that had no heating so that helped and of course having time to get things done is the main factor,i know i wore out several scanners in the process .
everything about it is time consuming but once done it is well worth it.

I have wore out my share of scanners as well. I had boxes of pictures that I scanned. Which I still have some that have not been scanned packed away in a closet. But the good thing about pictures is that they don't really degrade that bad as long as they are kept in the dark.
