With a Mavic 3 I know the obstacle avoidance works well flying around them when they are stationary (such as with trees, etc. But what if the bird is hovering and an object approaches like a mast of a boat? Doing a test with it hovering and approaching with my body there is no attempt by it to move out of the way. Can I assume then that object avoidance only works for stationary objects?

I own a Mini 2, which only has obstacle avoidance on the bottom. I know from experience that if it is in a hover and I walk under it or put my hand under it, it will immediately rise a couple of feet.

Have you set the obstacle avoidance to Bypass? Like I said, I don't own one so I'm only guessing, LOL!

It should attempt to avoid any object detected by its sensors. That detection is not foolproof though, so one should not rely on it 100%. It would be best to steer clear of all known obstacles.
