Backup Mavic Mini 2

I have a mini 2 which is great. I’m heading out on a road trip and I bought a backup mini 2, just in cast I have a problem and I’m in the middle of nowhere. I plan on returning it if I don’t use it - I haven’t opened it. Question: will it work right out of the box, or will I have to download a firmware update? This might be a problem because I’ll have my cell phone data, but won’t be able to download large files. Thanks

Bought mine a week ago and it still had firmware V01.00.0000. So firmware will likely be out of date. It should still work though just without the latest features/fixes.

I could be wrong about this but I seem to recall I could not fly my Mini 2 until I had registered it and done the updates.

You don't need to do updates but you do need to activate it.

You should be ok as long as you have cell service available when you need it. Neither activation, nor the optional DJI Care Refresh purchase, are particularly data intensive.
