During a Mavic 4 pro flight yesterday I had a battery overheating warning.
The same battery brought up the same warning last time it was used a week ago.

Both times the weather was cool.
Yesterday, the warning appeared when the battery reached 102°F and despite slowing down the temp continued to increase to 112°F when the drone landed.
The warning messages were:
Battery overheating. Stop flying and wait for battery temperature to return to normal. (Code: 16090080)
Battery power restricted. Aircraft performance decreased to ensure flight safety. Return to home promptly (Code: 110013).

The battery has 22 charge cycles and no swelling or other sign of a problem.
I've started a case and will be sending the battery back

I don't think I've heard of this warning before.
Has anyone else seen one of these?

If you had Airdata you could see how each cell is working, your problem may be a bad cell, I had a M3E battery go bad with no swelling and few cycles. I checked the info in Airdata which also sent me an email about the battery issue. I could see how the battery was spiking after only a few minuets of flight time.

Airdata shows the warnings in notifications, but nothing stands out in their battery data.

I checked the data for another flight on the same day with a different battery.
It went to 114°F without bringing up any warnings.
This suggests that the temperature is not the problem.

Definitely seems like a battery specific issue with that one battery.
Hopefully, replacing it will resolve the problem completely.

Here is the screen shot of the battery during the flight that spike

Hi, @Meta4, looks like you have a bad cell in your battery. Maybe you should try a new one.

I've looked closely at the recorded flight data and there's no indication of a bad cell.
I've started a case with DJI and will be returning the battery tomorrow and expecting a replacement.
Ok cool. Good luck with DJI's customer service, though. Can be a bit rusty.

Meta4, presumably when you swapped batteries the problem disappeared, i.e. it is a specific battery fault?

DJI service centre got back to me and will replace the battery.
They say they have seen a similar case and believe something in the battery is causing a false alarm which restricts power.
Great to hear it's going well.

Despite the wording of the warning message, my battery did not overheat.
It was a false alarm .
But that didn't stop the system restricting the power available to bring the drone home.
Maybe a BMS replacement would be required. It may well be sending biased battery info to the main board.

I had a battery for my Matrice M30 throw a code for a faulty temperature sensor. It still worked fine, but I sent it back to DJI who immediately replaced it with a new one. 112 deg F sounds really normal for a drone battery in use. Maximum operating temp for my M30 is 122 deg F. although I see that the max temp on your M4P is 104 deg F.
