I was thinking that we should start a thread on what to do and not do to guide for beginner drone pilots. Please feel free to share any good advice that you might have! Safe flying! Thumbswayup[emoji1474][emoji16]

Download, read, and understand the full online manual for your drone, batteries/charger, and controller:
...and save them on your device for quick reference.

1) Read the manual
2) Refer to rule 1
3) Check equipment
4) Recheck equipment
5) Set RTH altitude sensibly
6) Check out every other setting and understand what they do
7) Understand about the sun and obstacle detection
8) Install UAV Forecast and learn to use it
9) Fly only within VLOS and at low altitude
10) Don't be a show off and don't engage RTH under tree canopies
11) Many other things

Great Post......It's understandable that ppl want to get out and fly their shiny new drone but a "basic" preflight check list would be great.

IMPORTANT - IMHO you need time to read the manual, get use to the RC controls etc before you Go Flying.
Take a look at the DJI Instructional videos too.

this is my basic checklist;

PRE FLIGHT
1. Check all batteries are FULLY charged
2. Power Up RC & Drone to ensure latest Firmware and DJI Go4 App are updated
3. Visual Check of the Drone for any damage etc
4. A Dry run - a complete cycle of the equipment before you leave for your flights (Preferable still at Home)
i) Check DJI Settings/Preferences
ii) Clear any Warnings
5. Check that SD Card is onboard
6. Check weather forecast via UAV Weather app
7. Check Airmap re any flight restrictions etc
8. Pack Bag with all accessories need for the trip inc any insurance docs ;-)
9. Pack the Sandwiches

AT LOCATION
1. Check weather app again
2. Familiarise yourself with surroundings
3. Power up RC and Drone in sequence
4. Go Fly

I stick with these but more than happy to add/tweak the procedure.

Hey shaun.....quick question. When you said At location #3 power up in sequence....I guess I have never been aware there is a specific sequence to follow when powering up. I currently use sequence - drone, rc, go4 then auto boots on cell. Is there a better safer sequence I should be following? Thx

Yep thats the correct sequence as recommended by DJI....do the sequence in REVERSE when you power down ;-)

It doesnt really matter but I always power up my RC first.
