Bradenton Beach Drone, FL - Please Proofread My Letter To City Council

Don’t lump the non certified hobbyist into the same category of a Part 107 pilot that has taken the time to learn.
Seriously!? What makes you think that hobbyist/recreational drone operators do not know the rules? I have seen many posts on this forum from §107 (not 017) certified pilots that clearly show they do not know the rules that they have been certified to fly under. I have also seen many recreational pilots assume that they can fly under the same rules as a §107 certified pilot instead of the exception carved out for recreational pilots.

As a community we need to respect and educate both classes of our membership. Doing so will help keep us in a better light in the public eye.

I thought about responding to that post too, but you did a great job with it!

Excellent point. Take, for instance, the drone pilot who flew at Torrey Pines Glider Port in San Diego which resulted in his drone becoming entangled in a paraglider's rigging. The City Charter prohibits motorized aircraft at the glider port and the alleged pilot's website claimed he was Part 107 certified.
