BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION - THAT'S HOW THEY BUILD THE FIRST PILLAR

Where's the bridge going? Maybe, from across the river to tie into the railroad system? Will there be a second tower?

The first shot is amazing, looks like the beginning from a movie.

Ciao Rob

After a closer look, this appears to be a rail bridge with the trains going between the legs of the tower and over the river. Two much smaller white rail-bed support structures are seen on each side of the river. The function of the large upper tower structure remains to be seen. Been several years since I was in Taipei, I really enjoyed my 2 month visit there.

Edit: There appears to be 12 support cable mounting points on each side of the tower at the top. Will need to see more of this construction over time.

Found this after a fair bit of 'detective' work ...

The main goal of the project is to provide Ankeng Township with a convenient means of public transportation that would stimulate local development and relieve traffic pressure on local roads. The route starts from Antai Road to Shisizhang Station of Taipei MRT at Xianden District. The total length of the route is about 7.5 km including 5 elevated stations, 4 at-grade stations and one depot near the Erbazi Botanical Garden( 二叭子植物園). The total construction cost is about NT$9.6 billion. MAA Taiwan was engaged by Department of Rapid Transit Systems to provide construction supervision services for the project.
