Build a drone car

Just because you turn on the cruise control in your car doesn’t make it a driverless car.

An airplane with autopilot engaged still has a crew right there to intervene.
Maybe you didn't read the article. This subject is explicitly discussed at length.

There is a legitimate issue with the term, "manned" that did not exist before this aircraft. Because there is no way for the passenger to control it directly (there are no controls to actually fly it, only waypoint programming similar to Litchi missions), whether or not the aircraft is "manned" becomes real.

If so, the occupant would then be required to be a licensed pilot (the AC can only carry one person). However, they have no way to fly the aircraft.

So, who is "manning" the aircraft in the meaning that "manned" implies? No one.

Reality has exceeded current terminology to describe it. Forcing this incompatible situation into that terminology will simply yield bad results... the ideas and terms used to cover this situation need to be developed and updated.

It would be great if it also tripled as a boat. "A car, a plane, a boat... A car, a plane, a boat... A car, a plane, a boat... Do you get it? These are not three separate devices. This is one device, and we are calling it iMusk." - Elon Musk, 2020.
