Camera Auto mode and ND filters

I'm flying for fun and don't know if I should invest in ND filters.
Any suggestions?
They aren't essential.
They are used by some shooting video to reduce the shutter speed and are of no use for almost all still photography from a drone.
If you don't shoot video you don't need them.
Try shooting video without them and see if you are happy with the results.

Even if I'm shooting in auto mode video and still?

Don't bother with them if you are shooting stills.
Try shooting video without filters first.
If you are happy with the results, there's no need to get filters.

A caveat to this is if you are shooting hyperlapse and like a slower shutter speed to add more motion blur. Even with stills, if you want to shoot with a slower shutter speed than you can set even at f11 (think shooting a waterfall and wanting blurred water), then ND filters are a big help.

IMO anyone shooting video in daylight needs NDs to avoid pushing past the F-stop too high.

In bright sunlight you can't stay below f-8 without running shutter speed way up. If you can afford a M2 for video, don't short change yourself trying to get buy without NDs. The ND8 and ND16 will cover most situations for most people.
