Hello all,

I will travel to Europe in 2025 (especially Spain and France).

I hold third-party liability insurance policy issued through Coverdrone ( LLoyd's Insurance of London).

I have registered my drone (DJI M4P) (i) in Canada with Transport Canada, and (ii) in Europe via the French site AlphaTango. I understand such registration is valid throughout all EU countries.

Do I need to register myself and my Canadian Pilot license somehow in order to fly legally in EU countries?

Thanks all for your input.

Have you taken and passed the European union Aviation Safety Agency test and gained their certificate? Also, how old is your drone and does it have a C0 (Class ID) sticker?

Hello and thanks for your prompt reply.

I have not passed the European Union Aviation Safety Agency test. Can my Canadian certification be homologated by the EASA without having to take a test?

My DJI Mini 4 Pro was purchased earlier this month through Amazon (it's brand new) and has a C0 sticker on the back.
I do not plan to fly my drone above 120M in Europe, so I am fine with the C0 classification.

Ok, so as far as I know you will have to get the EASA certification. I recently did it myself, I live in the UK but am travelling to Cyprus. You can take the EASA test in any EU country and it will allow you to fly in any other EU country.

I did mine via a site in Luxembourg (LZ) as it was in English and free. Other countries seem to charge for it. The test requires 75% or higher to pass, but it's all common sense stuff. I did none of the reading, went straight into the test and got an 86%.

I doubt you can rely on your Canadian qualifications, I certainly couldn't as even though the UK is still a European country, since Brexit we are no longer in the EU.

Edited to add: As you have the C0 sticker you will only need the A1/A3 Open Sub Category certification, though of course you should check for any other specific requirements of the countries you are visiting and their no fly zone maps.

Thanks for your amazingly prompt, comprehensive and useful advice. I'll press ahead and take the test shortly.
