UAV Regulations in Europe 2026

Hi All,

I'm planning tour in Europe, start in June'26. I wish to take my drone, 987g with me for a recreational aerial photography.
The tour starts in France, then Italy and then few Mediterranean countries.

I'm a CASA ReOC certified pilot with commercial experience but this time only for my portfolio.

1. I did some research and I found that CASA is not a member of EASA.

2. Looks like I need to be registered in France (as it's my first destination), passing the exam, which is available only in French -> Topics | EASA

3. On the mavicpilots forum I found this thread France, before I go what do I need to know?. It looks obsolete and only for French speakers.

Anyone can share their experience bringing a drone from Australia to Europe?

I brought a Mavic Mini 4 Pro to Poland for a recent tour and had no problem at customs entry in Krakow. I did go on to the EASA web site and registered the drone for Poland and had the proper app on my phone for flying in Poland. I took the preliminary EASA test and passed it after 6 times. I was never asked for any permit and I had no confrontations from Law Enforcement or people on the street. I do fly by the "stealth" method. I start my flights in hidden areas. I took aircraft serial number , proof of purchase, Serial Number, etc. with me but never needed it.

To fly a drone in France, you need to pass the European A1/A3 Open category exam, which is available online and in English through the French civil aviation authority's portal. If you plan to do a commercial flight in France I would suggest a visit to this site.... apparently there is a ton of paperwork for foreigners.

987 gram drone puts it in the C2 category so the places you fly will be more limited.
