Apologies if this has been posted before.

I think its worth a re-post - i was unaware they were changing T&C's, I assume many other users will be in the same boat.

WOW! so there is such a thing as a free lunch and a wide range of 'content' hosts... AND at least one popular 'free' editor get you to pay for it and stump-up for the tip as well.

Use it? Dump it.

I wonder why they have changed the terms after all this time they must know it'll push users to other editors and the new terms are not making them any more money.

Like a hell of a lot of developers (and webmasters) they rely on the fact that it's as rare as hens teeth that anyone actually reads through reams of legalese gobbledygook before they agree to install what they need to use (... mea culpa... guilty as charged).

Even if they manage to lose a third of their current users: there'll be another load of new users along shortly who won't bother to read the T's & C's before they hit "okay" and they're back in the business of selling you wholesale with neither your knowledge, explicit permission nor a red cent of compensation.

You've got to admire their brass balls though. Openly stating the equivalent of "... We're going to screw you silly, sell your name and identity, claim all royalties for your work and tie you into a lifetime contract that means what you've done and what you're going to do in the future while using our editor and platform is our asset and you can do bugger-all about it..."

This is a compelling reason to bite the bullet and learn DaVinci Resolve.

I don't have a dog in this fight because, as a strictly recreational pilot, I shoot an occasional video and edit it only for my own edification. Most, if not all of it, is admittedly pretty mundane. I plan to continue using CapCut because 1) it works for me, 2) I'm too old and lazy to learn new tricks, and 3) I don't perceive much of a threat.

But, for the rest of you, CapCut's revised terms of service could be a matter of great concern. No doubt its developers/owners will have an army of employees sifting through all of the videos that you folks process in hopes of finding some snippets they can appropriate for themselves and exploit monetarily without your consent. No doubt CapCut also has another army of employees searching every conceivable social media site looking for edited content that you may originate and unwittingly post or share with a client in violation of its nefarious "contract." You may want to retain lawyers to handle all of the copyright infringement suits they file against you as a result of those searches.

This is such a big deal that Shakespeare wrote a play about it: Much Ado About Nothing.
