Be aware that DJI has added a dynamic home point feature to the Mavic 4 pro. And the default setting is apparently "on." You might want to confirm how your drone is operating with the new option before relying on RTH to act as expected.

Dynamic Home Point can be a useful feature if you're moving during the flight, as is flying from a boat. But it can cause problems if you intend for the home point to be the takeoff point.

While looking at some flights with Airdata I noticed that the home point was being reset during the flight, though I heard no audio notifications as it was happening. When I checked the setting on a subsequent flight, it showed as Static Home Point. After I set it to Dynamic Home Point and back to Static, it remained in Static.

Some additional details from the manual:

This part is significant. No auto-landing and "near" the home point.
Or maybe it's not that significant, since this is really the safest approach. Imagine if the aircraft always defaulted to auto landing at a new home point without knowing whether that spot was safe.

Yes, I agree that manual landing with a dynamic home point is a good thing.

I almost never use RTH, but it's a highly useful thing for loss-of-signal situations. So, it's worth understanding how it behaves. There's a big potential for problems if the pilot isn't aware of the way RTH works with dynamic home points being set. If they're standing beneath a tree canopy when the home point is set, there's going to be a problem if they use RTH.

I'm wondering about what "near" means. And what altitude the drone flies to before entering the hover state. Given the potential for changes in terrain elevation, I'm guessing that the hover altitude is relatively high. It may choose the RTH altitude setting specified in the settings.

This is a good issue for someone to do a few test flights to sort out the details.

I would assume it uses the downward facing sensors to determine the hovering height it will use during the hover.

Since the most common use of Dynamic Home Point is flying from a boat, hovering will always be the best option at the last recorded home point over water. By not landing, suicide drownings will be avoided. LOL!

Sounds like a really useful feature as long as the pilot is aware what’s going on!
As it’s on the RC2 I wonder if it will work with my Mini 4 Pro while I save up for the new Mavic…..
Dynamic HP was was only on the RC Pro 2, but since it is advertised as an available feature on the Mini 5 Pro, have they, in fact, added it to the RC 2, or are they still only referring to the RC Pro 2, now when used with the Mini 5 Pro?

While tinkering with the Dynamic Home Point feature today, I discovered that my controller was set to airplane mode.
I have M4P but with RC2 not RC Pro 2 remote, so assume this Dynamic Home Point is not available in my case...
If you mean Mavic 4 Pro and RC2, yes Dynamic Home Point is available. Not so for the Mini 4 Pro and RC2.

Yes, I have Mavic 4 Pro, but only RC2 (I am in a hunt to get the RC Pro 2 from somewhere for a reasonable price), I will have to check for this Dynamic Home Point feature; while I don't really do off-the-boat flying, I could still find it useful

Folks, just tested this Dynamic Home Point, and it works as expected!

Wasn't in a boat (lol) but was actively moving around while drone flying and my HP was constantly updating as per RC location. This is an awesome find! I think I will keep it on, thanks y'all who discovered it!
