Mavic Air 2 seems to have USB-C port in the side of the drone. Anyone knows if that can be used to charge the flight battery? Would be great to use laptop USB-C charger for drone when traveling.

well it could. technically at least.

USB-C PD (Powerdelivery) can support this:

5 - 20 Volts5 Amps100 Watts

but i highly doubt it, that DJI implemented this - you will most likely have to stick to the wall-charger.

The Mavic air 2 batteries are 11.1 volts. A USB charger cannot achieve the power output to charge the battery. It would be nice if you could power the drone whilst doing calibration and IMU checks etc so as not to waste valuable battery time.
There are a few power banks that will deliver enough power and voltage (12) to do portable charging of all sorts of things. They are expensive but useful if you're stuck with a dead phone or drone.

I've had the drone since launch day and have never needed to do a calibration (IMU or compass) ever before flying.

You can do it with other DJI chargers! I have the new FPV system and the mavic mini 2 is allowing usb-c charging through the power adapter device.

USB PD supports up to 20V at 5A (comfortably enough for the Air 2 batteries)
QuickCharge 3.0 and 4.0 supports up to 20V at 4.6A (comfortably enough for the Air 2 batteries)
QuickCharge 2.0 supports 20V at 2A (possibly not enough)

There's no reason the Air 2 batteries *couldn't* be charged by USB - but it's difficult/confusing to ensure you have compatible chargers / cables with all the competing standards available on the market (yes, the CABLE has to support the standard too) - so I can understand why DJI just said no.

For example - this specialized charger supports 4 simultaneous batteries and only draws 105W - USB-PD can do 100W - so there's easy overhead to charge 3 simultaneous batteries with an appropriate charger/cable.
