Hi all!
Glad to be here. As a newb I thought this would be the best place to come!
I am considering the new Mini 2, as a new flyer. My first problem is that my Huawei phone is not compatible. Bummer. So as an opening question, I would like to ask for suggestions on what phone/tablet would be good for a newb to fly with? If a tablet do I need a monthly subscription to provider? Memory requirements? Apologies for this real basic requests, but don't want to start off on a bad foot, and have early drone flying nightmares!
Thanks in advance.
Chris

Hey there! Welcome from China. :)

The Mini 2 is an absolute dream for a beginner. I don't know how much drone research you've done, but it's really remarkable how much improvement they packed into a 249g drone. And the price point is ridiculous to the extent that I think it will eat into the sales of their next level drone, the Air 2, which in itself was market disrupting in relation to their next tier up, the Mavic 2 series. i.e. Yes, get the Mini 2, it's amazing!

Regarding phone... why is it not compatible? Is it a newer model that's been locked out of the Playstore? I use a Huawei P20 Pro that I bought in the UK. It's still remarkably good despite its age. It was before trade war nonsense, so I'm not sure about the newer Huawei phones.

If your phone isn't too new and you are considering upgrading anyway, I'd recommend something with a big and bright screen. Maybe Samsung Galaxy Note 20.

If you want a dedicated tablet for flying drones, you should look for something with reasonable processing power and a high display brightness. Display brightness is measured in nits. For example the Note 20 is 1500 nits.

You don't need data on your phone or tablet to fly your drone, so there's no need for any subscriptions. Your phone/tablet essentially just provides a screen to see on and a small computer to run the DJI Fly App. You can theoretically fly your drone without any tablet/phone, though that's not recommended and basically useless for drone cinematogpraphy/photography.

Thanks for the welcome guys.
Heindrich1988, my phone is a Huawei YAL-21. I contacted DJI, and support (reading from their compatible list) said it was not compatible. A bit annoying as I only started a 2 year contract on the phone a few months back. However, I'm willing to change/add a contract if necessary. I have read up quite a bit/ watched videos etc. Ideally I'd like the mavic Pro, but have decided against it as a newbie. I'd rather earn my flying wings first! I look forward to sharing here with you guys, and look forward to the advice and films you post!
Cheers
