No it’s not stupid, I sometimes wonder if theses a better way myself. I think the important thing is you fold over the cloth a few times and gently wipe frome side to side and let the cloth do the work just barely more pressure than gravity. Resist the urge to wipe in a circular motion which is no good.

As with all things preventative measures are better than anything. Try to never actually touch the filter or the lens and always use the cloth when handling it.

I just had a great idea! Somebody needs to manufacture some microfiber gloves you can wear when handling camera lenses. They’d make a fortune!

i use an air puffer on mine its the same one i use to clean the mav a good couple of puffs after using the cloth should do it

@brett8883 Yeah been doing that with the micro fibre cloth but still get dust on the lens. We’ll have to go into partnership with the gloves;)

@old man mavic that would make sense, blowing the cloth dust of the lens;)

Try a drop of water maybe? When you rub it with the cloth it creates static cling on the filter (which is why dust clings to it after rubbing it), and water helps to stop the cling.

PolarPro DronePen Phantom 3/ Solo / Yuneec Drone Cleaning Pen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A989SPA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kQhMCb9ZPJEAQ

That’s a good idea, might look into that, has anyone else used this?

Good advice, will need to carry a bottle of water with me to do that. I change my filters just before flying depending on what the lights doing.;)

Out in the field:
1. Use the air puffer to remove anything which is on the glass itself to avoid scratches
2. Use a cleaning cloth without water or anything
3. Use the air puffer to remove any residues

Avoid touching the glass. It's easy on the M2Z, I don't know how it is with other drones. Maybe use gloves. No liquids. The Chance to make it worse is too high.

At home:
1. Air puffer
2. Water and a drop of dish washing liquid
3. Dry with a cleaning cloth
4. Air puffer

Be careful with polarized filters. If they a circular polarized (likely) they consist of two glasses and liquid can get between those and this should be avoided. If it happens, you maybe need alcohol or destilled water to remove smears.

That's the same way I clean my DSLR filters.

Greetings
Jürgen

It’s more so in the field that I get the dust problem, I noticed last weekend I was spending to much time cleaning the filter, fitting it back on the camera only to find more dust on it, removing it again to reclean:rolleyes: I fly a M2P which again is very fiddly putting/taking off the filters, there’s no finger marks just dust from the micro fibre cloth....

Thanks to all for your imput, much appreciated I’ve taken all your comments on board and hopefully I’ll put this little problem to sleep.;)

I'll probably use the LensPen I use for my camera.

These may be a viable option (I have a pair for handling photo prints) - Amazon.com: photo gloves
