Codec issue M2P

Gents
I'm new to the M2P so bear with me...
Today I recorded my first video on the M2P in codec 265 ( I think that's its name!). Went to view it on my laptop and got a message saying I need to download from Microsoft to enable viewing.
So, as a commercial pilot, are clients going to have the same issues, and if so, do I stick with 265?
Thoughts appreciated....

Just use H264 and keep things easy

How old is your computer? In the Intel world, you need Kaby lake or newer CPU architecture for hardware 10bit H265/HEVC processing. Here is Nvidia's list as well: Video Encode and Decode GPU Support Matrix

Try play it in VLC Media Player (free download), that might work too as a workaround if you're just looking for a compatible viewer.

The main advantage of H265 is you can get a much higher quality video over less bandwidth, but the source device has to be compatible. For example if you have an iPhone 7 or newer, they are compatible with H265 playback. So it depends on your audience. There is nothing wrong with shooting in H265 and just converting to H264 after for the best of both worlds.

It depends on whether you want to take advantage of the 10-bit recording capability - which requires H.265. You can transcode to another codec after processing for compatibility.
