Confused why my height and distance were restricted??

I was out with my DJI Goggles and Mavic, with just the controller. Everything flew fine however it wouldn’t let me fly above 30m and my distance was restricted as well. Why is this?? Do I need a phone or tablet attached to allow me to fly unrestricted?

Nope. Everything in my googles said “GPS mode ready” and all was green.
